MU.SA - SINTRA MUSEUM OF ART (MUSEU DAS ARTES DE SINTRA)

Sintra has always attracted artists and has been the inspiration for great pieces of art for centuries. The beautiful neo-Classical building housing the museum dates from the 1920s and was once Sintra's casino. The MU. SA art museum presents a collection of works predominantly by local contemporary artists. Here too, you can find paintings and sculptures crafted by Portuguese and foreign artists living in Portugal. The resident collection features works from some of Portugal's best-known artists, most notably the sculptor Dorita de Castel-Branco and painters Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro and António Carneiro, plus several paintings from various artists of Sintra's 18th-century heyday.

In the Municipal Gallery, the museum also presents temporary exhibits from various themes, generations and styles. There is also an area dedicated to photography and a Municipal Library.
