The origins of the Lisbon Sports Club go back to 1880 when a group of English residents living in the Lisbon area decided to found a Sports Club. After ten years they built a small six-hole golf course in Alges. The club relocated in 1922 to Alto da Ajuda and a nine-hole golf course. Then in 1962, the Club moved yet once more to its present location at Casal de Carregueira between the villages of Belas and Vale de Lobos. Its original nine holes were increased periodically until finally in 1992 Lisbon Sports Club could boast an 18 hole course.
The course is relatively short but the topography and layout of the land make the course deceptively difficult and the player must use their experience and wit to navigate the challenges. It has a narrow fairway lined with old trees and a stream follows most of the course. Each hole seems so much different from the previous. The clubhouse occupies the former Manor House of Casal da Carregueira which overlooks picturesque woodland. In addition to the gold course, you can also find a swimming pool and tennis courts.

The lush green foothills of the Sintra Mountains provide an impressive backdrop for the Quinta da Beloura Golf Course. The eminent American golf course architect Rocky Roquemore designed here a course that will stretch both your imagination and ability whilst providing an enjoyable challenge to golfers of all abilities. Over 40,000 Eucalyptus, Oak, Pine, Magnolia, Palm and other exotic trees and plants have been planted on this gently undulating Par 73, 18 hole course that measures 5,846 metres from the Men’s Tees and 4,952 from the Ladies Tees. Water comes into play on many of the holes as they meander between the various lakes and streams that border the Fairways. The course is irrigated automatically from its own water supplies, guaranteeing crisp lies on lush Tifton 419 fairways and true, holding greens from a greensward of creeping bents. In addition, the Course is complimented by excellent practice facilities with qualified teachers.
