Biester Palace - Ballroom
Designed by renowned architect José Luís Monteiro, Biester Palace is essentially a revivalist building composing a blend of architectural styles, including neo-Gothic with Romantic influences. The house is considered “one of [Monteiro's] most representative works” by the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage.
For a truly immersive experience, guests can explore the palace's interior that spans two floors which include the living room, dining room, billiard room, library, and exquisite chapel. Highlights include the grand staircase, elaborate ceilings, and the iconic wooden elevator crafted by Raúl Mesnier de Ponsard, the creator of the Santa Justa Elevator in Lisbon. The interior boasts intricate frescoes, stuccoes, and paintings by notable artists like Luigi Manini and Leandro de Souza Braga.
Surrounding the palace, visitors can wander through the lush Biester Park (Parque Biester), adorned with exotic flora from around the world, and enjoy panoramic views of Sintra and its surroundings. The park features charming pathways, botanical gardens, fountains, and even a cave adorned with ceramic tiles by Bordalo Pinheiro. The grounds also contains a tea house for your convenience.
