Housed within a converted watermill, this compact museum celebrates the artistic legacy of Artur Anjos Teixeira and his son, Pedro Augusto Anjos Teixeira. Pedro's significant contribution to the museum came in 1974 when he generously gifted his extensive collection of non-realist sculptures to the Town Council, ensuring their permanent display in Sintra.
Pedro's sculptural style is a fusion of Naturalism, Realism, late Naturalism, and Neorealism, reflecting a diverse range of influences. The museum's exhibits encompass a variety of themes, including human and animal anatomy, labour, freedom, professions, the female experience, as well as depictions of historical and religious figures.
Anjos Teixeira Museum
Founded in 1976, the Anjos Teixeira Museum served as Pedro's creative hub and sculptural teaching space from 1977 to 1992. This museum is a showcase of sculptures crafted from a diverse range of materials including plaster, marble, and bronze, complemented by drawings and prototypes.
Pedro Augusto's artistic repertoire primarily revolves around the exploration of the female form, pastoral landscapes, and depictions of rural life, characterised by the neorealism style. In addition to its exhibitions, the museum offers engaging recreational and educational programmes tailored for young children.
Visitors can easily access the museum by descending the steps located at the apex of the bend on the Volta do Duche road, which leads from the train station to the old town. Alternatively, access is also available from the Azinhaga da Sardinha car park.
